Sushigirls was filmed in Tokyo, at the launch party for a sleazy magazine aimed at wealthy gaijin (or foreign, here specifically white) men. Two female escorts, one Russian and one Ethiopian, were hired to serve as sushi-platters for people to eat raw fish off of.
The blonde Russian sushigirl was hard at work writhing around atop the glass table and flirting with the gawking men, while the Ethiopian girl looked relaxed, if little bored.
I say hello and we end up chatting all evening. I learn that Desta had been a law student in Nigeria before coming to Japan to work as an “entertainer”. Her sister is married to an older Japanese man in Yokohama. It was Desta’s brother-in-law who suggested that she come to Tokyo to work in the “Mizushoubai”, or sex industry.
